Tax incentives in Rēzekne SEZ are applicable until 31 December 2035. The procedure for the application of tax incentives at free ports and special economic zones is regulated by the Law On the Application of Taxes in Free Ports and Special Economic Zones.
The total area of Rēzekne SEZ is 1155 ha. This area includes the territory of Rēzekne City and the rural territory of Vērēmi, Griškāni, Ozolaine parishes.

Today, Rēzekne SEZ can be proud of 22 commercial companies that successfully conduct their business in the territory of Rēzekne State City and Rēzekne county.
In this year, the joint institution "Rēzekne special economic zone Authority" of Rēzekne county and Rēzekne city
municipalities was established and a new stage of development of Rēzekne SEZ was started.
Due to changes in the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia, the legal status of the organization was changed and it was transformed from a non-profit organization into a joint stock company. In total, during the operation of the joint-stock company "Rēzekne special economic zone", 15 commercial companies obtained the status of Rēzekne SEZ. The joint-stock company "Rēzekne special economic zone" operated until 2010, when it was liquidated.
The first commercial company - "REBIR" RSEZ AS - obtained the status of Rēzekne SEZ. It was followed by such well-known companies as "VEREMS" RSEZ SIA and "Rēzeknes Dzirnavnieks" RSEZ AS, which are successfully operating in the territory of Rēzekne SEZ even today.
The founding agreement of JSC "Rēzekne special economic zone" is concluded. The joint stock company was founded with the aim of performing the management functions of the Rēzekne special economic zone in order to promote the development of entrepreneurship and market economy, attraction of investments, production of export goods and service services, creation of new jobs, promoting the compliance of Latgale as a specially supported region, as well as Latvia's participation in the international in trade.
The presentation of the Rēzekne free zone project was taking place, in which members of the Saeima, ministers, members of the city council, entrepreneurs, Verēmu, Greiškānu parish representatives and mass media, etc. participated. The project was approved and it was recommended to continue work on its implementation.

The northern district was connected to the rest of the city by a viaduct. Rēzekne became a large industrial city, the number of workers in the largest factories reached 3,000.
The general plan of the city of Rēzekne provided for the industrial development of the Northern district of the city by building several factories - milking equipment, reinforced concrete, picna canning plant, as well as apartment buildings.
Railway line Ventspils-Moscow- Rybinska was opened.

The Pēterpils Warsaw highway was built through Rēzekne, the section of which became the main road of the city of Rēzekne (now the Liberation Palace). This highway divides the Rēzekne SEZ territory into eastern and western parts.

On the other hand, the East Latvian Creative Services Center “Zeimuls” (Caran d’Ache) is a modern home for the development of creative talents and craft skills of children and young people. The city offers wide opportunities for active recreation and sports “Olympic center Rēzekne”, it offers a wide range of sports and active recreation infrastructure, as well as provides diverse sports events. A promenade along the Rēzekne River has been created for active recreation or peaceful walks of local residents and guests of the city, and the newly introduced Kovšu Lake Park has also recently been opened, which includes the entire area of the lake and its surroundings, which are well-maintained and accessible to every visitor. It is a great place in the center of the city, which has become a popular vacation spot for every lover of nature and active recreation, where, in addition to natural landscapes, various entertainment, activities and services are available.
Rēzekne municipality is the largest of the municipalities in Latvia and combines 28 parishes and the city of Viļani with a scenic, gorgeous and diverse environment, ancient craft and farm traditions combined with modern business. Two of Latvia’s largest lakes are located here – Lubāns, with one of the most interesting bird-watching places in Latvia, in the territory of the Lubānas wetland, and the most generous lake Rāzna, on the shore of which rises Mākoņkalns, surrounded by legends, and Lielas Liepa kalns, which is the third highest peak in Latvia.
The Rēzekne region is proud of the restored romantic Art Nouveau pearl – the Luznava manor, which is becoming an important center of art and culture at the international level as well. The value Rēzekne Municipality is talented and hospitable people. There are several potters’ workshops here, where skillful hands turn clay into unique ceramic masterpieces. Entrepreneurship in Rēzekne county is mainly related to the production of agricultural products. Many have joined cooperative societies in order to compete more successfully in the market with their products, others use the advantages of Rēzekne SEZ for business development. The population of Rēzekne and the surrounding area reaches 120 thousand. The number of job-seekers in Rēzekne is around 2300 people at the economically active age. In Rēzekne and its region there are many higher education institutions and vocational school graduates in fields of engineering sciences, economics and other spheres. These people could be the potential professional employees at various enterprises. More than 85% of the inhabitants know Russian and around 70% of the inhabitants at the age up to 40 years have a good command of English.
Availability of an educated labour force at Rēzekne SEZ is ensured by Rēzekne Academy of Technologies, the State Border Guard College and branches of five other higher education institutions of Latvia in Rēzekne.
Rēzekne Academy of Technologies implements 44 various study programmes. More than 1800 students are involved in full time and part time academic and professional BA and MA, doctoral, first level and second level professional education study programmes.
Rēzekne Technical School as a competence centre for vocational education ensures the acquisition of a profession to more than 800 students in 18 curricula.
Including wooden article manufacturing, motor transport, construction works, marketing, food product technology, catering services, IT systems, programming, energy industry and electrical engineering, administrative and secretary services, interior design, hotel services.
In order to improve the skills of labour force, employers have access to support programmes for the training of the current and potential labour force in lifelong learning, youth guarantee and other programmes co-financed by the state and the European Union.

The Latvian Investment and Development Agency is a long-standing cooperation partner of Rēzekne SEZ Authority within the framework of the POLARIS process, which provides regular mutual information exchange and support in attraction and implementation of investment projects.
Cooperation agreement on exchange of information and experience, scientific research and teaching methodological cooperation, as well as implementation of student internship programs is in force between Rēzekne SEZ Authority and Rēzekne Academy of Technology since 2011.
