RSEZ

February 4, 2026

On February 3, the Saeima Economic, Agricultural, Environmental, and Regional Policy Committee reviewed and conceptually approved amendments to the Rēzekne Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Law.

The core of the draft law proposes extending the operational term of the Special Economic Zone until 2050. Similar discussions were held regarding the extension of the Latgale and Liepāja SEZ terms, aimed at ensuring long-term predictability and stability for international and local investors.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM), the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, and the Latgale Planning Region.

Given the strategic importance of the issue in streamlining the regional business environment, the Committee decided to forward the bill for consideration by the Saeima under urgency status. The Saeima is expected to vote on the amendments in the first reading during the plenary session on February 12.
