The municipal joint institution Rēzekne Special Economic Zone Authority (Rēzekne SEZ) has published its public annual report for 2024, which was approved at the Rēzekne SEZ Supervisory Board meeting on September 17, 2025.

The report shows that in 2024, 22 companies operated within the Rēzekne SEZ, employing 1,267 people. Their total turnover reached €112.47 million. The leading companies in terms of turnover were “VEREMS” RSEZ Ltd. (€52.6 million), “LEAX Rēzekne” RSEZ Ltd. (€18.2 million), and “NewFuels” RSEZ Ltd. (€15.6 million). Export volume amounted to €84.9 million, with ten companies exporting products to EU countries, the USA, Japan, and other destinations, proving the international competitiveness of Rēzekne SEZ businesses.

In terms of investments, 2024 was the most successful year so far for Rēzekne SEZ. Companies invested €89.9 million in infrastructure and modern technologies, while accumulated long-term investments (2010–2024) exceeded €252 million. The largest investments were made by “VEREMS” RSEZ Ltd. (€81.2 million), “OptoElektronika LV” RSEZ Ltd. (€6.7 million), and “BAIBIŅA” RSEZ Ltd. (€1.1 million). These figures demonstrate both investor trust and the growing importance of the zone in the economy of Latgale and Latvia as a whole.

Several major projects were implemented in 2024. “Verems” RSEZ Ltd. launched a solar park with 3,600 panels and continued work on a €90 million production expansion project. “OptoElektronika LV” RSEZ Ltd. opened a new 4,300 m² production facility in Rēzekne with an investment exceeding €5.5 million. Additionally, the metalworking company “Ķēdes” obtained SEZ status and plans to invest €300,000 and create new jobs over the next five years.

According to Rēzekne SEZ Manager Maija Meirāne, these results highlight the zone’s significant contribution to regional social and economic development, as well as the ability of its companies to achieve high performance both locally and in export markets. SEZ businesses not only create new jobs and improve living standards but also introduce new technologies, strengthen export capacity, and promote a sustainable business environment in the region.

A key milestone of 2024 was the development of the new 2025–2035 Development Plan. The plan foresees expansion of industrial areas, improvement of public infrastructure, attraction of investments in sustainable and innovative sectors, and strengthening of the business community. Its goal is to position Rēzekne SEZ as one of the leading business centers in the Baltics by 2035.

The annual report also highlighted the Rēzekne City Industrial Park project, planned in the Northeastern industrial district of the SEZ. Covering approximately 19 hectares, the project includes redevelopment of former material storage areas and construction of new roads, sidewalks, water supply and sewage networks, lighting, stormwater drainage, and railway access. These public infrastructure investments are strategically important, creating preconditions for attracting private investment, establishing smart specialization companies, and generating new jobs in Latgale.
