Awaiting centennial of the Congress of Latgale, on November 25, 2015 Discussion Forum “Sustainability Dimensions of Latvia – educated people and preservation of environmental values” took place in Rēzekne Academy of Technologies (RTA). Within the framework of Discussion Forum representatives of state and municipality institutions, as well as researchers and representatives of NGOs discussed questions related to education and environmental sustainability, which lay in the basis of sustainable development of Latvia in the future.
During the panel discussion “Environmental protection as an opportunity to improve education, develop of economy and ensure quality of life”, in which special attention was paid to the interaction between environmental protection and economic growth, CEO of Rēzekne SEZ Authority Sandra Ežmale participated with a presentation “Environmentally Friendly Entrepreneurship – Opportunities and Challenges”.
As acknowledged by the head of the Saeima Sustainable Development Commission, Laimdota Straujuma, one of the main priorities in the areas of environmental protection and effective use of resources is to implement sustainable solutions, which promote and not hinder growth of entrepreneurship and economy of Latvia.
Forum in Rezekne was first of the six initiatives of the project “Sustainability Dimensions of Latvia – educated people and preservation of environmental values”. Altogether within the scope of the project devoted to centennial of Latvia and the Congress of Latgale, which has been organized by RTA, Rezekne region, Līvāni and Madona municipalities as well as society “Association of Innovators of Latvia” and “Biomass Technology Centre”, envisages several thematic conferences and forums in Ludza, Madona, Līvāni and Rēzekne.
