Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Canada to Latvia visits Rezekne and RSEZ enterprises in an official visit

In May 30 – 31 Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Canada to Latvia Alan Hausser visited Rezekne in an official visit with an aim to get acquainted with Rezekne, its business environment as well as education and culture opportunities. Ambassador had a meeting with the representatives of Rezekne City Council and RSEZ, visited RSEZ enterprises, culture and education institutions. During the meeting in Rezekne City Council participants of the visit were introduced to most remarkable infrastructure projects in Rezekne and directions for further development as well as with tendencies of economic growth and RSEZ as a special support mechanism for facilitation of entrepreneurship and investment attraction. Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Canada to Latvia Alan Hausser, while meeting with the representatives of Rezekne City Council and RSEZ and with RSEZ enterprises, emphasized the opportunities for further cooperation in areas of trade and investment between Latvia and Canada in scope of EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). In order to get a deeper insight in investment and entrepreneurship environment in Rezekne, during the visit ambassador also visited RSEZ enterprises – birch plywood mill “VEREMS” RSEZ SIA and metal processing enterprise SIA “LEAX Rēzekne” RSEZ – introducing himself to production processes and success stories of these enterprises. In scope of the visit Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Canada to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia Alain Hausser attended East Latvia Centre of Creative Services “Zeimuļs” and Rezekne Academy of Technologies, were he had a meeting with the students and gave a public lecture. In the premises of Rezekne Academy of Technologies Ambassador also opened a photo exhibition “Secrets of Arctic”, in which former Canadian Ambassador to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia John Morrison (2012 – 2014) had reflected the mysterious nature of Canadian Artic. As acknowledged by the representatives of Embassy of Canada to Latvia this type of visits provide an opportunity to get to know Latvia and its cities, but also to promote cooperation between Canada and Latvia in economic matters as well as in fields of culture and education.
