RSEZ is commended in two categories of the Global Free Zones of the Year 2015 Survey by “fDi Magazine”

October 22, 2015

In the survey of the most promising economic zones in the world conducted by the “fDi Magazine” of the popular British newspaper “Financial Times”, the Rezekne Special Economic Zone has been commended in two categories of the bespoke awards – for infrastructure improvements and for reinvestment.

Free/special economic zones from all over the world were invited by the “fDi Magazine” to apply for the survey “Global Free Zones of the Year Awards 2015”, filling out a form on the attractiveness of the area, opportunities and offers for the investors. In total, 76 applications from free zones around the world were assessed, including the RSEZ and Ventspils Free Port from Latvia.

In the category “Commended for reinvestment”, the RSEZ has received recognition respecting the reinvestment by the commercial enterprises, especially the expanded production area (by 1000 square meters) by the metalworking company “LEAX Rezekne” in 2014. Along with the RSEZ, the Shannon free zone (Ireland) and the Łódź SEZ (Poland) have been recognized as the top best in this category.

As well the RSEZ is among the seven most successful special zones in the bespoken award category “Commended for infrastructure improvements” – among the areas, where both the best conditions for the development of the existing businesses are established, and the attractiveness for the new investors created. The major investments in the improvement of the road infrastructure, water supply, heating and power supply systems were accomplished in Rezekne in 2014. Furthermore, it is planned to raise the EU funding and municipal investments to improve the road infrastructure and the utilities in the period up to 2019. The Venstspils Free Port and special economic zones of Poland, Russia, Serbia, and Spain are also commended for the infrastructure development.

The survey results shall be considered as a significant success of the RSEZ because it is recognition of the progress made in improvement of the infrastructure and in collaboration with the existing business partners and the potential investors. It validates that the RSEZ is competitive on a global scale and is a perspective area for investors to develop their businesses.

The main prizes of the survey “The Global Free Zones of the Year 2015” by the “fDi Magazine” are awarded to “DMCC Free Zone” (the UAE) and the Katowice Special Economic Zone (Poland).
