July 15, 2019

The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO) held its fifth Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE) in June 26 – 28, 2019 in Barcelona. More than 1000 participants from 73 countries, over 35 speakers discussed the future cooperation and development possibilities of world free zones. The three- day conference covered a wide range of topics concerning logistics, ecommerce, transparency, data e.g., as well as presented an opportunity to form lasting business relationships.

Under the overarching theme of Free Zone 4.0 meets Economy 4.0, the fifth AICE presented tools to measure and track prosperity in free zones around the globe. The event also examined the challenges raised by e-commerce, explored the impact of a shifting political landscape on free zone activity and assessed the ways to strengthen the global value chain through free zones and beyond. The AICE also hosted panel discussions, parallel workshops, and exhibition.

Several pioneering initiatives by the World FZO were announced in AICE 2019. Sandra Ežmale, representative of the Rezekne SEZ points out 3 of them – online platforms that could be used and benefited by all interested participants of SEZ. The first is the Open University, in partnership with the University of Dubai, which is online platform containing free and paid courses for any member of free zone to access and follow. The another online platform – the Izdihar Index – provide possibility for the members of free zones to upload their performance data to access exclusive World FZO analytics and map their way to optimal performance. The third is B2B online platform where free zones can interact together to pitch and secure business, and access settlement services internationally.

"Participation in professional organizations like WFZO provides exclusive possibility for global networking and bringing the message of advantages and opportunities offered by our Rezekne Special Economic Zone worldwide," says Sandra Ežmale. "Networking is the core added value of participation in the international events of this kind. The investor looking for the new location can be sure that Rezekne SEZ is advanced and developing organization, having global network and following all the economic development trends."
